Australian Johne's Disease Market Assurance Program Approved Training for Veterinarians

The Australian Johne's Disease Market Assurance Programs are a key strategy in the control of Johne's Disease in Australia. MAPs are voluntary quality assurance programs that enable producers to objectively assess and promote the low risk Johne's Disease status of their flock or herd to their clients.

The management and implementation of the MAP quality assurance system rests with the producer who obtains professional advice on the potential risks to the flock or herd and appropriate management strategies from the supervising approved veterinarian. Additionally the approved veterinarian undertakes testing, investigations and an annual audit. Veterinarians are approved for the purposes of the MAP by the CVO of the jurisdiction in which they practice.

In 1996 Animal Health Australia, in consultation with stakeholders developed a MAP training program and associated resources to assist jurisdictions provide MAP training for veterinarians. A number of prerequisites are required of veterinarians wishing to obtain approved status as MAP veterinarians. These include current registration, APAV accreditation and the completion of MAP training.

The MAP training program for veterinarians has been fully revised and is now available online. This course is a requirement for veterinarians wishing to obtain MAP approved status but is also available as a CPD activity. To access the online course please contact :
