Animal Health Australia
has, for a number of years, managed a suite of activities that enhance
particular aspects of the National Surveillance System for animal health. As
the Company moves to a more strategic position in relation to enhancing animal
health surveillance through the development of a National Surveillance
Strategy, there is still a requirement to manage existing activities.
Management of these activities has been aligned under the National Surveillance
Enhancement project.
The objectives of this project are to enhance the National
Surveillance System for animal health through:
- Enhancing
the National Animal Health Information Capability;
- Improving
field data capture techniques;
- Including
livestock identification and traceability system in the National
Surveillance System;
- Coordinating
wildlife health issues;
- Providing
a framework to address specific issues in the future.
Presently, this project includes activities addressing:
- Increased
compatibility of animal health data;
- Syndrome
surveillance;
- The
use of traceability data for surveillance purposes;
- Increased
wildlife health reporting;
- Sociological
issues relating to producer reporting of unusual incidents;
- Identifying
R&D priorities.
